• all in the details •

Appearance:
Tall, dark, and handsome as the cliche goes! A well built man who has dedicated his life to physical and mental training, he is the picture of perfect health. Dark brown orbs peer out from under long tendrils of black hair that hang about his face. At first glance one might assume him to be a rather well built male of not special note. However someone who could read the movements of other beings would see within him a perfect harmony that is rare to find.

Every step seemed to move along a carefully plotted course, predetermined long before the journey was undertaken. Each breath measured to make sure he took in only the air he needed, and nothing more. Every movement he made, no matter how small, was about balance and measure. If one were to look deeper into his eyes though, they would find a burning desire for something that so far was unattainable. A rage and disharmony carefully tucked away fighting to escape it's confines, and escape into the world it once knew.

Personality:
While Patrick looks the part of intimidating enforcer he is actually a rather soft spoken, and peaceful man. Very much non-confrontational, he would rather settle differences through words or debate. He has a sharp wit, but it remains mostly unseen due to his desire for keeping the peace in every situation. However one does not know the true depth of a lake without first jumping into it, and while Patrick strives for peace he also has a darker side which he keeps a rather tight lid on. Sometime though, he is unable to hold himself back which results in the eruption of rage.

While these outbursts are very rare, they do still happen. The result is the most primal instinct of man taking control of a well oiled weapon, and wielding this weapon like a child with a gun. Erratic and uncompromising are two words which greatly explain his mind when pushed to this state, and he will not stop until he purges it all from his body.

Abilities:

Shadow Draw-The basis for almost every ability in Patrick's arsenal, it allows him to draw his own shadow into his body and use it much like a mage might use a mana pool. The difference being that his stores of energy all depend upon the size of his shadow at the time he draws upon it. The larger his shadow, the more energy he will have to play with and vice-versa. If his shadow is touching another shadow at the time he can draw upon both shadows for energy, however he CAN'T draw on the shadows of other people to fuel himself.

Shadow Bolt: A concentrated ball of his own shadow mixed with the chi energy that flows through him. He hurls it like one might throw a baseball, and do to the condensed state of the shadow it becomes a basketball sized blunt force projectile. The shadow forms around his hand while being infused with the chi energy in his body, and as he throws it he focuses a final burst of chi into the throw to add a bit more power to the throw. The force would be akin to what it might feel like if a bear could throw a bowling ball at you...and it hit. The creation of this ability happens within three to six seconds depending on the conditions he is facing while creating it.

Shadow Wall- Similar in creation to the shadow bolt, he projects his shadow outwardly from his body while infusing it with chi energy to solidify it into a solid wall. The strength of this wall can be as flimsy as paper or as strong as steal depending on how much of his own chi he wishes to place within the wall. This can also be used to create a dome around him, but in doing do he stretches the energy that forms the wall which thins it considerably while offering less protection. The creation of the wall can vary from a split second to several seconds in which the energy must be gathered to create the wall. It all depends upon the strength of the wall which is being created that determines how long it takes him to erect it. The strength depends upon the amount of energy he puts into it as well, however even his strongest crafted wall can be plowed through with enough physical force. On average the wall will take anywhere between five and forty-five seconds to construct.

Blackout- This ability requires no chi, but it does require all of his shadow energy to achieve. Patrick forces his shadow outwardly in an explosion of darkness which will instantly blankets a 10x10 area in utter darkness from which no light may escape and none can pierce. He can then wrap himself in the shadows energy to camouflage himself within the blackout from others who rely on simple sight to target an enemy. It is used mainly as a defense/escape technique.

Chi Flow- Through his training with the monks of Tibet, Patrick has learned every use for chi energy that one might conceive. Chi flows through all living things, and is the essence that keeps the body moving even under grievous circumstances. It is an energy super highway within the bodies of all living things which can be stimulated in order to promote healing or disrupted to deny use of limbs and even cause death. Patrick is sworn by the laws of this ability to never use it to outright kill someone, however with a few good strikes he could effectively lock up the body of an enemy to the point that they are unable to move. This use of chi also allows him to focus it through his body for quicker reflexes or stronger strikes, but when directing more chi to one part of the body it will weaken another. The use of chi is not unlimited either, and as he expends more of it he will drain himself of the vital energy. With continual use his body can only withstand five minutes before locking up and dropping him to the ground in a coma. It is because of this that he must always be careful when using it and maintain short bursts.

Skills:Master martial artist,Herbalist,Minor Philosopher,very quick learner,expert on body language.

• the tale of a lifetime•

History:

Raised in Japan by his Bastion born mother, Patrick was given all the attention and love in the world. A bright child who spent most of his early years delving into books considered a bit far advanced for his age, but it did not stop him from understanding and enjoying them. Life was a fun for him, He graduated high school at the age of fourteen much to the dismay of younger students whom picked on him thoroughly throughout the years of his quick ascension through the grades. The constant bullying of these older children pushed Patrick to better himself both physically and mentally as he was a firm believer in survival of the fittest.

Having a a great intellect was not enough to survive in the world, and so he began to train his body in the local gym as puberty began to shape him into the man he would become. His muscles grew rapidly during the day, and at night he would expand his mind through the theories of Carl Jung whom he had taken a rather great interest in. Carl Jung had a theory on human evolution which piqued the curiosity of young Patrick, and sparked within him a desire to put this theory into practice. The idea was that humans had three stages of evolution in which most of the world was in the second state.

There are three totally different kinds of humans on the Earth, meaning that they perceive the One reality in three different ways, interpreted differently. The first kind of human has a chromosome composition of 42+2. They comprise a unity consciousness that does not see anything outside themselves as being separate from themselves. To them, there is only one energy - one life, one beingness that moves everywhere. Anything happening anywhere is within them, as well. They are like cells in the body. They are all connected to a single consciousness that moves through all of them. These are the aboriginals in Australia. There might be a few African tribes left like this. Then, there is our level, comprising 44+2 chromosomes. We are a disharmonic level of consciousness that is used as a steppingstone from the 42+2 level to the next level, 46+2

According to Carl Jung it would take a mental and spiritual change in order to achieve this stage of evolution. A deep understanding of the world, ones self, and ones consciousness. At the age of eighteen Patrick was an impressive specimen of mental and physical harmony, and had been working on reaching this next stage of evolution for almost three years. It was at this age he went to study among the Tibetan monks with the hope of better understanding the physical world along with the spiritual. It was as he studied within these walls that he made two of the three breakthroughs he would need in order to reach the state of forty-six and two.

With world travel being something difficult to achieve, it was through pure luck that his mother agreed to get him where he wanted to go. She was a high ranking member of the Umbra corporation at the time, and using her contacts
she was able to safely get her son where he was going. Upon his arrival he had a guide waiting to take him into the mountains, but Patrick simply smiled and left the guide where he stood determined to find the monks on his own. It took him three months before he was able to find the monastery, and when asked about his journey he explained how he found them as well as his reasons for coming. The monks were impressed and agreed to let him train among them slowly at first, but with the promise of further progression should he prove himself capable of handling it.

In his meditation he would examine himself deeply while trying to not only tap into his personal unconscious, but the collective unconscious as well. After five years of striving in this singular goal he managed to tap into both at the same time. The personal unconscious held the parts of him that he feared and hated about himself, and that he hid away from the world as well as himself. Carl Jung’s writing explained this as one’s shadow which was to be taken literally as Patrick was to find out. As he confronted, dealt with, and integrated these things into his conscious state of mind he found that he gained a mental control over his shadow.

This started with him simply being able to move it around a room without actually moving himself, however as he gained more power in the struggle to accept these most feared and hated parts of himself he found that he was able to manifest the shadow as well as draw upon it to cloak himself or darken a room completely. As he started to understand this control of his shadow/feared and hated parts of himself, he found himself diving deeper into his unconsciousness. It was through this that he tapped into the collective unconscious for a brief moment before being forced from it. He was able to touch upon it for a moment, however he was simply not ready to open that door and cross into that realm of thinking.

Through his training with the monk, and the lessons they taught, he got a better grasp on both the world and his physical being. They taught him the world was connected through the flow of energy or chi, and that with it harnessed one could do amazing things on an almost super-human level. The flow of chi in all living beings was connected through invisible points that could be disrupted or further expanded on for either great or deadly effect. With the greater understanding which Patrick had of himself, he was able to grasp this art of chi much faster then any before him. At the age of thirty two he had become a master in both martial training as well as the flow of chi within living things.

Using this chi flow along with the control he was able to exert upon his own shadow he found that he could harness his shadow within himself. In doing so the shadow became a part of his living self that he could infuse with chi to great effect such as hurling balls of shadow to great blunt force or creating walls of shadow to shield himself from harm. He also discovered that should his shadow meld with the shadows of other shadows he would gain control of those shadows as well, and he could draw upon it for greater effect. He had become a living weapon for the human race in times of darkness which he thrives in more then any other.

At thirty six he left the monks, but he was no longer the boy who believed simply in survival of the fittest. He desired now to simply attain the original evolution which he had set upon this path for, he had not yet achieved this goal and could not simply ignore it after learning what he already had from this path. The idea that he could go further then he already had, and that the human race could as well, was something he needed to see through to the end even if all that he would find was death or defeat. He needed to see how far a human being could go, how far they could transcend from the original blueprint.

The enlightenment was something that impacted Patrick in a very positive way because of what it meant to his studies. Everything he was trying to accomplish was simply theory when it was published, but with the arrival of so many creatures of legend it only made the idea of further human evolution more plausible. If these creatures of fable could truly prowl the world unseen then what was to say a human could not evolve into a super-human state? These simple thoughts infused a great faith within Patrick that the ideas he was working on not only held merit, but were very much possible

He traveled back to Bastion, so that he could touch upon his family roots to try and gain a better grasp of his own history. His mother and father had met here, and so this was the place of his creation. Patrick felt the need to connect with the culture here so that he might be able to gain an understanding of his own origins with the final goal being to cross into the realm of the collective unconsciousness. He had a way’s to go, but Bastion seemed to be final stop in his journey or so he hoped.

Upon his arrival he was approached by Umbra who wished to ask him about what he learned and offer him a job working alongside them. While the offer was tempting Patrick could not sign on to be a part of something which acted on such a selfish level when it had enough wealth and power to spread around. the way he saw it the corporation could do more to help with people of Terra then it already was, and because of this he refused to work with them.

Of course this did not sit well with the higher ups who demanded that Patrick be brought in by force, but alive and well. They would get what they were after no matter how it needed to be obtained. and as insurance they put the word out that Patrick's mother would be under investigation and quarantine until they managed to find him. A battle with Umbra seems to be unavoidable at this point in time, but Patrick was not one who was foolish enough to think he could do this alone....he would need friends.

Notes:
Currently looking to reach the next stage in human evolution. Unable to attain it yet.

Is this a Canon?:No

Is this your second character, and if so, who is your first?:[b]

Hello Patrick,

Welcome to Dark Renaissance. There are two elaborations I would like to see before I put an approval stamp on your application. Don't worry. They aren't anything major.

Your spell list looks good. I just ask that you explain a little more about the individual spells. For example, how long does it take to cast the shadow wall and for how long can it last?

Lastly, the Enlightenment played such a vital part in every character's life. What was it that Patrick was doing the day Terra shook the world? Also, what is his current involvement with Umbra. They aren't the kind of the people that would send a young boy off to learn the mysteries of the universe without trying to acquire some of them for themselves.

I look forward to writing with you.

Sincerely,

Azule
